Federal government renews grant award to Medina County

People in Ohio and throughout the country have many experiences over the course of their lives that give them experience and perspective. In many cases, couples and families live together in harmony; there are, however, occasions when people do not. When disagreements arise and tempers flare, some people respond with acts of domestic violence.

In 2011, the court in Medina County, Ohio was awarded a grant to assist them with domestic violence and abuse cases. Recently the court received word that the grant would be renewed for an additional three years, paying out a total of $295,000 from 2013 through 2016. It has been reported that grant monies may be used to employ a victim advocate and a magistrate that specializes in domestic relations on a full-time basis.

The grant was created in response to the Violence Against Women Act—an piece of legislature that was passed in 1994. The Act was formulated to provide financial assistance as law enforcement officers investigated domestic abuse cases and charged perpetrators when they acted out against women. Sometimes victims of domestic violence make their situation out to be less than what it really is. Utilizing the expertise of a victim advocate is thought to assist in revealing the full truth.

Establishing meaningful relationships founded on trust is something that most human beings are capable of. There are times when family members disagree with one another, but when disagreements turn violent, physical abuse can ensue. When family issues arise, it may be helpful people to speak with an experienced attorney.
