Ohio mom, boyfriend allegedly found passed out in car on heroin

According to law enforcement authorities with the Loveland Police Department, a couple in Loveland were allegedly found passed out in their car with two small children in the backseat on Nov. 23. Reportedly, the incident occurred in a Kroger's grocery store parking lot in the town.

Police reported that the 24-year-old mother and her 29-year-old boyfriend were both asleep in the car. The man was reportedly asleep in the driver's seat, while the mother was asleep in the passenger's seat. The woman's two young children were allegedly in the car's backseat when they were found.

Law enforcement officers allege that a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of an eyeglass case. Inside of the case, they reportedly found hypodermic needles, one of which they said the believe had heroin in it. Police also allege that both adults appeared to have recently used drugs. They were taken into custody and charged with endangering children. The mother's bond was set at $1,000, while her boyfriend's bond was set at $3,500. Police turned the children over to the care of their grandmother. It is unclear whether either will be charged for heroin possession.

A person who is facing heroin charges may be eligible to go through a drug court program rather than the regular adult criminal court. The drug court is focused on helping people to get treatment and rehabilitation rather than on simply sending them to prison. People who are facing drug charges may want to talk to their criminal defense attorney about whether drug court is a good option for them. Successful completion of the program has the potential to help people get back on their feet so they can start their lives afresh.
