What to do after your child has been charged with a crime

On Behalf of | Apr 8, 2015 | Underage Drinking |

As a parent, you want your child to have the best future possible, and you want to prevent anything from standing in the way of that happening.

That’s why you need to act quickly and carefully anytime your child is facing criminal charges, whether they seem serious in nature or not.

Even charges like underage drinking or drug possession can have a very negative impact on your child’s life, and potentially jeopardize his or her future.

This is a situation that many parents find themselves in after sending their child away to college. Students are pressured to drink and use recreational drugs at nearly every party that they attend. They see other students getting away with the behavior — and having fun while doing it — so they think, “why not?”

But all it takes is being at the wrong place at the wrong time for seemingly harmless “college behavior” to result in a life-changing criminal record.

In fact, a criminal record can cause college students to lose their financial aid, get kicked off of athletic teams or even get kicked out of school. Even though you are likely paying a fortune in tuition at your child’s school, they still reserve the right to discipline your child as they see fit.

Ultimately, what your child needs is an aggressive lawyer who can fight to reduce the charges or make them go away completely. If you believe that your child’s future is worth investing in, then you surely believe that an experienced defense attorney is also an investment worth making.
