Signs your child may be drinking alcohol

On Behalf of | Jul 25, 2022 | Underage Drinking |

Every adult knows the experience of being a teenager. Awkward moments and peer pressure prevail during those years. Adolescents often wrestle with temptations, including getting drunk.

You may relate to the reasons for their consuming intoxicants. Still, there are potential legal ramifications. If your child drives drunk, the results could be dire. Keep an eye out for indicators that this sort of illegal behavior is happening under your nose.

Mental changes

Kids that have serious alcohol problems sometimes suffer memory lapses. Take note if your progeny cannot remember significant events from the recent past. An inability to concentrate is also common. Falling grades could be an indicator that your student is having trouble focusing.

Emotional changes

Juveniles who drink may exhibit unusual personality shifts. The teenager in your house might become easily irritable or defensive, even angry. Additionally, an uncharacteristically flippant attitude may develop.

Behavioral changes

Sound the alarm if your dependent begins lying or stealing. Rebellious actions such as these could also take the form of breaking family rules. Alcoholism often leads to poor hygiene. Be aware when personal chores, such as teeth brushing or showering, suddenly stop. Your teen might start associating with a new set of friends. Raise the concern level if your adolescent does not want you to meet them.

As a parent, you want to curb your child from becoming entangled in any criminal violation. Recognizing the indicators of alcohol consumption grants the opportunity for intervention. Early action can prevent incarceration, injury or even death.
